It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Color is an endless topic for anything visual, film included. I’ve shared articles about how filmmakers can support their storytelling with color, how colors affect and inspire us, and a series of movies broken down through their color palette.

From innocence (pink) to erotism (purple), editor Lidia Mtz-Seara takes a shot at identifying the states of mind signaled by different color choices in scenes from 61 different movies. Some moments NSFW (depending, of course, on where you work)! The post Color Psychology appeared first on Studio Daily.

The Importance of Color Science for Video In a previous post, we interviewed Lars Borg, Principal Color Scientist at Adobe, about the intriguing field of color science. In this post, Lars shares a few things that everyone working in video ought to know about color science. We learned from Lars that “color” is actually an interplay of available light, colors, and the context in which we see them – all of which makes color subjective to a lot of different variables. We wanted to...

It’s not often that a teenager mucking about in their bedroom results in a commemorative blue plaque. But that’s what happened to William Henry Perkin in 1856.

A la manière de Genis Carreras qui a mis des formes sur des mouvements philosophiques, le photographe allemand Christian Stoll a voulu mettre des couleurs sur des sentiments et des traits de caractères dans sa série, Psychology of Colors.

Colour, more than any other element of a designer's work, has the greatest influence on how viewers feel. Understanding colour, its cultural symbolism and the relationship between colours is necessary to becoming a better artist and designer. It's always better to learn the basics before striking out to develop your own colour language. We are surrounded by colour every moment of our lives and certain things become ingrained on our consciousness, so we immediately understand what the colour is s...
